The WELD-2.5D Application

Automated Welding Procedure Development for Sheet Metal and Thin Plate

View the WELD-2.5D Control Panel

When plate thickness will affect heat flow (i.e. 3D or 2D heat flow are not realisitic) WELD-2.5D is often a better choice. It is a general purpose application for computing optimal weld procedures where 2+1/2D heat flow predominates.

In fact, for most sheet metal and thin plate applications it is preferred. WELD-2.5D can be used for gas tungsten arc welding, plasma arc welding, oxy acetylene welding, laser welding, and other fusion welding processes when filler metal is not deposited. WELD-2.5D calculates weld dimensions, parameter values, and 10 quality parameters including melting efficiency, width, penetration, and root size sensitivity, temperature sensitivity, thickness sensitivity, and power sensitivity.

WELD-2.5D currently can be used for 19 metals and alloys: 304, 15-5PH, and17-4PH stainless steels, 1018, HY80, and HY130 steels, Hastelloy C4, C22, and B2, Kovar, 1100 and 6061 Aluminum, Ti-6Al-4V, Inconel 625, and 718, Nickel 200, 110 Copper, Tin, and Molybdenum.
